What They Say:

‘Dear Ben, I can only write you this letter because I know you’ll never read it…’

When Jem writes to her ex Ben, it’s to explain everything. All the secrets she kept from him – from the little lies she’d sometimes tell about how new those shoes really were, or how many glasses of wine she’d had that evening… right up to The Big Thing that happened on the night that changed everything. But she never expects he will actually see what she’s written.

She is just writing because she thinks it will help to get the words out. Later, she resolves, she’ll burn the letter, and then the past will be in the past for good.

Because Jem is doing fine now. She’s busy: working, spending time with her best friend, and looking after her mother, who’s in remission from cancer. She’s even dating again and has just met a guy who she thinks she could actually fall for. At long last, Jem is really, definitely somewhere close to happy.

But her mum finds the letter and thinks she’s doing Jem a favour when she posts it to Ben. And Jem’s new, carefully rebuilt life begins to unravel in ways she could never have imagined. Then, when her mother gets ill again, she finds herself asking who has the key to her future. The man she’s falling in love with now? Or the man she loved before?

A heartbreaking, beautifully honest novel that will stay with readers long after they finish it. Perfect for fans of Diane Chamberlain, Amanda Prowse, and Susan Lewis.

Author Bio:

Anna had a brush with 'fame' as a magician's assistant back in 1977. She later decided that being sawn in half by her magical performing father, at barely 6 months old, was too submissive a role. She vowed to channel the trauma into something much more pro-actively creative. Having failed at acting, singing and professional murder mystery parties (she was ALWAYs the one to die!), she fell to something much more solitary: writing. Anna lives on a dairy farm in Cornwall with her two children, her husband, and her ex-racing greyhound, Olive Dog.

What I Say:

The Man I Loved Before has 2 storylines running through it. There is the story of Jem and her love life and the story of Jem and her Mum.

Jem's love life isn't straightforward, but it never is, is it? Her ex, Ben has moved far away to escape their past and the hurt Jemima caused him. Jem's best friend Leanne encourages Jem to get back out there and sets up a Tinder profile, leading to a new man coming onto the scene. Looks like Jem has found her Prince Charming. Right?

Jem and her Mum, Val, have the kind of relationship I had with my Mum. Strong, loving, supportive, close. When Val becomes ill, Jem is heartbroken but knows she has to be strong.  This is the story line that resonated so much with me. I sobbed when reading it. I went through the same with my Mum, 10 years ago.

Every aspect of this book is brilliant. It's written from the heart, from experience and with such care. I was messaging with the author while reading it and she was full of concern and care. I can't wait for everyone to read this book! I urge you to grab it now, it's gorgeous!
This is absolutely gorgeous and very much guaranteed a top spot in my Books of the Year list for 2020. 11/10

Why I'm Shaving My Head for Lancashire Women

Hi there! I know it's been ages since I've done a personal blog post.      Things have been... weird. I know the whole world has struggled getting used to this new normal and the new measures we have to follow. So many people have lost so much to COVID and my heart breaks for them. And while the virus itself hasn't changed my life very much, this time of lockdowns and self-isolating has been really hard for me too.      When it all first started to change, Steve was taken into hospital with a bunch of different symptoms. COVID wasn't really a thing then, so he wasn't tested for it, but looking back, we're pretty sure that's what it was. While he was in hospital in March, an inspector from the RSPCA came to check on the welfare of our dogs as they'd had a report that Sky, our GSD, was too skinny. She is petite, a slim girl who didn't have a good start in life but is spoilt rotten now, along with our other 2, Bella and Minnie. They had no concerns and

Blog Tour Stop and Review of The Holiday Escape by Heidi Swain

Welcome to my stop on the Blog Tour for The Holiday Escape by the delightful Heidi Swain! Let me preface this by saying that this is my first blog tour in a year, and the last one was for Heidi's last standalone book, The Book-Lovers Retreat! What better way to make my comeback than this??!! What They Say: Her dream holiday is his everyday life. His dream holiday is her normal life. What happens when they collide?   Ally and her dad, Geoff, run the family business, a creative retreat, from their home Hollyhock Cottage in picturesque Kittiwake Cove. They give their guests their dream break, but Ally hankers after glamourous city living, fancy restaurants and art galleries. Ally’s survival strategy is to escape out of season, take a break abroad and pretend to be the person she always imagined she would be. She meets Logan while she’s away and he turns out to be  exactly  the kind of distraction she’s looking for. With her spirits restored, Ally returns home, picks up the reins again
