Welcome to my stop on the blog tour for The Family by Louise Jensen! This is Louise's fifth novel and each is better than the one before!

What They Say:

ONCE YOU’RE IN, THEY’LL NEVER LET YOU LEAVE.
Laura is grieving after the sudden death of her husband. Struggling to cope emotionally and financially, Laura is grateful when a local community, Oak Leaf Organics, offer her and her 17-year-old daughter Tilly a home.

But as Laura and Tilly settle into life with their new ‘family’, sinister things begin to happen. When one of the community dies in suspicious circumstances Laura wants to leave but Tilly, enthralled by the charismatic leader, Alex, refuses to go.

Desperately searching for a way to save her daughter, Laura uncovers a horrifying secret but Alex and his family aren’t the only ones with something to hide. Just as Laura has been digging into their past, they’ve been digging into hers and she discovers the terrifying reason they invited her and Tilly in, and why they’ll never let them leave…

What I Say:

Well, I don't know where to start with this review... I remember reading The Sister and being quite creeped out but also in awe of how this author could weave such an intricate, twisted tale. I've been rather hooked on her books ever since.

When I read the synopsis for The Family, I was really intrigued. It sounds really dark and thought provoking. It is absolutely both of those things, and so much more!

This is a story that often quotes that "blood is thicker than water" and talks about chosen family. I'm a firm believer in both of those concepts so this story really gripped me. It's deep, dark, eerie, compelling and emotionally driven. It's very much a whodunit, in the sense that you don't know who to trust, who to believe, if anyone at all. Nothing is as it seems, no one should be trusted but it's all so innocent sounding and calming. A retreat from the rat race.

I read this book in 5 hours, a record for me! I loved every breath taking second of this roller coaster ride! 9.5/10

Thanks to Jessica Lee at HQ for sending me an advanced copy in exchange for my honest review.

My Books of The Year 2018!!

Hello you beautiful people! It's that time of the year again, time to round up the books I have read in 2018 and tell you which ones made my list. I love and hate this in equal measure. I love looking back on my reads from the year but I hate feeling like I left off a book that I loved or missed a hidden gem. I worked long and hard on this list and I feel really good about it this year. I have read 53 out of the 45 books I had hoped to read this year, so I'm pretty pleased with that.

So, here we go!

Best Character In A Series: DI Natalie Ward written by Carol Wyer

Best Debut: The Lido by Libby Page

Best Memoir: I have a tie here between Eat. Drink, Run by Bryony Gordon    AND
Born In The Bed You Were Made by Brooklyn James

Children's/YA Book: We Are Young by Cat Clarke

Most Surprising Book: I Flipping Love You by Helena Hunting. I don't normally read New Age or Romantic books, but I went to school with the author and was excited to try one of her books. I absolutely loved it…
