Blog Tour Stop and Review - The Stall of Second Chances by Dana Bate

Welcome to my Stop on the Blog tour for The Stall of Second Chances by Dana Bate.

What They Say:

Sydney Strauss is obsessed with food.

Not just with eating it - though she loves that too - but with writing about it as an aspiring cookery reporter. But food journalism jobs are more coveted than cupcakes, and so Sydney is stuck working for one of TV's biggest egomaniacs - until she's left scrambling for shifts at the local farmers' market.

Selling muffins at the Wild Yeast Bakery is hardly going to make her the next Nigella. But soon Sydney is writing the market's weekly newsletter, and her quirky stories gain attention from a prominent food columnist. After years of being left on the shelf, she's even dating again. And then Sydney gets a shot at the story, one that could either make her career or burn it to a cinder - along with her relationship and her reputation . . .

What I Say:

I've never read any of Dana's books before so I was quite excited to read this one!  The synopsis sounds great and I love baking so this sounded like a winner!

The book is a little predictable but this doesn't make it any less enjoyable. Sydney is a great, fun character who kind of blundered her way through life and had to fight for everything, so when she lost her job (a job she never loved) it forced her to re-evaluate and take a new path.

This book is full of witty one liners, tasty sounding treats and sticky situations. I liked that Syd is quite normal and easy to relate to. I also liked that she was funny and quirky without being pretentious.  Her luck with men is atrocious and that made me root for her to find a decent guy too.

All in all, this is a good chick lit book to curl up with on a chilly night. 8/10

  1. Oh I really am not that good at baking. I make good muffins and kids love them, but not that good in baking cakes or more serious stuff. Thanks for the giveaway, lovely xx

Welcome to my blog tour stop and review of The Book-Lover's Retreat by Heidi Swain! What They Say:  One long summer. One perfect setting. Blog Tour Stop with Review of A Truth For A Truth by Carol Wyer

First off, I must apologise to Zoe and Carol. My blog tour stop was yesterday, and somehow my post got lost in the ether. I didn't notice until today, as thr hubby hasn't been well, and my time has been taken up with my dogs and caring for hubs. So, a day late and pared down from my original post due to lack of time, here is my review of A.Truth For A Truth by the wonderful Carol Wyer. Review: What can I say?? Any book by Carol Wyer is going to be a hit in my opinion, and this is no exception. DI Kate Young is a flawed character who is full of heart and humility. I think she's been dealt a shit hand in life, and struggles to figure out her path. Traumas and dramas, untrustworthy men, and unstable mental health make her slightly difficult to bond with sometimes. But still, I care a lot about her wellbeing. This installment of her series is really compelling, and an interesting take on a "who dunnit". More of a "who will they THINK dunnit"! I loved that!
