Blog Tour Stop - The Wish List of Albie Young by Ruby Hummingbird

Welcome to my stop on the Blog Tour for The Wish List of Albie Young by Ruby Hummingbird! I hope you'll join me in wishing Ruby a very Happy Publication Day as this little beauty hits shelves today!

What They Say:

Sometimes you have to hit the bottom before you can float to the top.

Maria Birch is seventy years old and, for her, every week is the same.

On Monday, she does her weekly shop. On Tuesday, she goes for a blow-dry. On Wednesday, she visits the laundrette. But Thursday is her favourite day of all – everything hurts less on a Thursday.

Every Thursday Maria walks to her local café. Waiting for her at one of the red gingham-topped tables is Albie Young, a charming man with a twinkle in his eye and an impressive collection of tweed flat caps. Every week, the pair share a slice of marble cake and a pot of tea.

Except, one week, Albie doesn’t turn up.

When Maria finds out what has happened, her perfectly ordered life is ripped apart at the seams. Suddenly, she is very lonely. Without her Thursday friend – her only friend – she no longer has the energy to circle the weekly TV listings, she has no reason to leave her apartment, no reason to laugh.

Then she discovers that Albie isn’t who she thought he was, and she’s left wondering if she knew her friend at all. But Albie has left behind a legacy – a handwritten list of wishes he never got the chance to complete.

Maria is resigned to facing the rest of her days heartbroken and alone. But fulfilling Albie’s wishes could hold the key to her happiness – if only she’s able to look past his secret…

This life-affirming and heartfelt tale is for anyone who has ever looked at their life and wanted more. Fans of Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine and The Keeper of Lost Things will love this poignant story, which shows us that for the truest loves, the end is never really the end…

What I Say:

Simply put, I was totally blown away by this book!

The character of Maria is just so likeable and relatable. I had a very clear image of her in my head from the very first page and she stayed with me long after I finished reading. Working with elderly people on a daily basis has opened my eyes to their lives and the monotony so many of them face, so I really related to Maria's lifestyle.

When her little world is turned upside down, my heart broke for her. I can't even imagine how lost she must have felt. I genuinely lived her fear, her confusion. Ruby has a great way with words and makes emotion come to life and leap off the page.

I could blabber on for ages about how beautiful, sweet, intriguing etc etc this story is but I won't because I'm afraid I will give something away. I absolutely adored reading this book and I look forward to more from this author.

Just gorgeous, heart warming and life affirming. 9/10

Why I'm Shaving My Head for Lancashire Women

Hi there! I know it's been ages since I've done a personal blog post.      Things have been... weird. I know the whole world has struggled getting used to this new normal and the new measures we have to follow. So many people have lost so much to COVID and my heart breaks for them. And while the virus itself hasn't changed my life very much, this time of lockdowns and self-isolating has been really hard for me too.      When it all first started to change, Steve was taken into hospital with a bunch of different symptoms. COVID wasn't really a thing then, so he wasn't tested for it, but looking back, we're pretty sure that's what it was. While he was in hospital in March, an inspector from the RSPCA came to check on the welfare of our dogs as they'd had a report that Sky, our GSD, was too skinny. She is petite, a slim girl who didn't have a good start in life but is spoilt rotten now, along with our other 2, Bella and Minnie. They had no concerns and

Blog Tour Stop and Review of The Holiday Escape by Heidi Swain

Welcome to my stop on the Blog Tour for The Holiday Escape by the delightful Heidi Swain! Let me preface this by saying that this is my first blog tour in a year, and the last one was for Heidi's last standalone book, The Book-Lovers Retreat! What better way to make my comeback than this??!! What They Say: Her dream holiday is his everyday life. His dream holiday is her normal life. What happens when they collide?   Ally and her dad, Geoff, run the family business, a creative retreat, from their home Hollyhock Cottage in picturesque Kittiwake Cove. They give their guests their dream break, but Ally hankers after glamourous city living, fancy restaurants and art galleries. Ally’s survival strategy is to escape out of season, take a break abroad and pretend to be the person she always imagined she would be. She meets Logan while she’s away and he turns out to be  exactly  the kind of distraction she’s looking for. With her spirits restored, Ally returns home, picks up the reins again
